PAT1ENT ZERO - Band Bio

Formed in 2008 by guitarist/vocalist Ben Christopher, all original thrash metal band, PAT1ENT ZERO, has been evolving their unique sound and vision.

After numerous line up changes, the Z found itself in the form of what can only be called a true POWER TRIO featuring the aforementioned Christopher on guitars and vocals, Ben Tessman taking on the role of bass monster, and thunderous drumming provided by local favorite KC "The King" Kelly.

The band is currently working on new material, tracking new singles, and booking shows for 2017.

Pat1ent Zero ends 2013 with a bang playing New Years Eve at Hull Avenue with our friends in Driver and Resurrection Mary. Despite the technical difficulties, the shortened set was still very intense.

Now that the calendar has reset, so shall the band. For the first month, the band has decided to take a hiatus from shows and concentrate on recording their first LP.

Pat1ent Zero wants to thank all of our friends and fans for your continued support. You keep the drive to compose original thrash metal music strong and fresh.

Ben Tessman, 31, is the bassist for Patient Zero, performing at 9:30 p.m. Friday at Hull Avenue Tavern, 834 Hull Ave.

Q: How did you first get into metal?

I distinctly remember Metallica’s “And Justice For All” being my first exposure to the genre. I was raised as a pastor’s son, was an overall good kid, and heavy metal was a way to feel more rebellious. It was pure adrenaline. I should have picked up a bass right then, but didn’t start playing until almost two decades later. It came naturally, and once I felt confident, I started looking for a band to join.

Q: How did Patient Zero come together?

Our drummer, K.C. Kelly, and I have been performing together since 2010. A mutual friend introduced us to our current ax-man, Blaze artist Ben Christopher, who manages BRG Music in Perry, Ia. He has clearly taken us to the next level.

Q: The band posted about having a vocalist tryout last week. Will there be a new frontman for the Hull show?

To put it bluntly, no. Finding ‘the new face of your band” is probably the hardest thing we’ve experienced as our lineup has shifted. We are committed to finding the right vocalist and we’re not going to waste anyone’s time if they aren’t a fit. Even as an instrumental set, we bring a lot of energy to the stage and hope that continuing to play shows will be the best way to attract a high-caliber musician that matches our level of dedication and style.

Big Wax is a west coast rapper who has gained fame the old-fashioned way, through several long years of posting his rhymes on youtube, sometimes with his twin brother Herbal T. We have been following Wax's rise to infamy since the very beginning, and although we are metal heads, we hold him in the highest regard.  You can, and should, subscribe and tune into his podcast EVERY WEEK. It's released on Wednesdays and you can find it right here. We recommend it.

Have we lost our minds? Did we ever find them to begin with?

When we started to hear our fellow loyal podcast listeners start doing their version of the intro, we knew it would be our crowning achievement to be the FIRST heavy metal band to do the intro.
